Jacksonville Jaguars star Jalen Ramsey always seems to be in the media. If it's not for his play on the field, it's usually for his comments about something that raises some eyebrows. There is more to Ramsey than the guy who is always good for a quote, so let's breakdown four things you should know about him.
Was Elite from Day One at Florida State
Ramsey was five-star recruit when he arrived on campus at Florida State, and instantly he showed flashes of his talent. He started the first game as a freshman at cornerback, the first player to do that with the Seminoles since 1985 when Deion Sanders did the same thing. In 2015 as a Junior he was a Consensus All-American and was one of the best cornerbacks in college football.
He decided to forgo his senior season to go to the NFL.
Was a Two-Sport Athlete with the Seminoles
Ramsey was elite on the football field during the fall, and during the spring he switched to track and field where he also was impressive.
He completed as a relay sprinter and a long jumper and was named an All-ACC honoree three times. During the 2013 season, he finished in third place in the ACC in the long jump. He also ran a leg on the 4×100 relay during the ACC outdoor meet.
In May 2015 Ramsey won the ACC Long Jump Championship and was only three inches short of the automatic qualifying spot for the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials.
Ramsey has a Kid
Ramsey and his longtime girlfriend Breanna Tate welcomed a baby girl into the world in July of 2018. After reporting back for training camp, Ramsey said that he wasn't going to be doing too much diaper changing.
“We've been best friends since high school so we've always kind of talked about how the process would go a little bit,” Ramsey said via USAToday. “Of course, everything's different when it actually happens, but for the most part, we have really good agreement that I won't necessarily have to change diapers.”
Ramsey said the trade-off was that he would feed her and Tate was in charge of doing the diapers. In the last year, there hasn't been a ton of updates about the baby, which must mean that everything is going well for the Ramsey family.
Faith is Important
Ramsey might be a huge trash talker, but inside he is a man that leans a lot on his faith. In a video with GQ talking about the Jaguars star, he said he always carries around bible verses in his wallet.
“I also keep a couple Bible verses with me,” he said. “I’ve been having these since high school.”
On one side of a handheld card is 1 John 4:16: “And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.” On the other side of the card is 2 Timothy 1:7: “For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.”
Ramsey said faith has always been key for him, and it's what he leans on when he has any problems in his life.
