Kyle Shanahan and the San Francisco 49ers are truly letting thing play out in regard to newly acquired quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. It is why it comes as almost no shock that the team announced that CJ Beathard would start at QB for the Niners this weekend.

The 49ers are set to play the New York Giants this weekend.

While there are a variety of reasons for Handsome Jim Garoppolo to stay on the bench for now, it mostly boils down to his need to get more familiar with San Francisco's playbook. Outside of that, it feels like it is only a matter of time before CJ Beathard, who has played decent all things considered (relative to the team not being good), loses his job.

This is great news for the head coach's wife, who, as we've recently learned, wants to know when Garoppolo will start seeing some time on the field.

“I know everyone is very excited and wants to see him play,” Shanahan said last week, via Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle. “Including myself. Including our coaches and players. Including my wife. I get that. I’m very well aware of that. But I’m fortunate to be in a situation where we can do what we think is right.”

Shanahan has put voice into letting the newly acquired gunslinger get acclimated prior to the announcement that Beathard would start this weekend.

“I am very eager and excited to see him out there,” Shanahan said. “That doesn’t mean that’s the right decision. That’s what I’m trying to balance out. If I just went off impulse and feeling, I would have done that the very first day. The very first second. But I’m trying to do what’s right for Jimmy and what’s right for our team. A lot of things go into that. It’s not just something I can set a date on or plan. It’s something I have to evaluate.”

How many more games until the switch is made at the position?
