On Wednesday, news broke that San Francisco All-Pro wide receiver Deebo Samuel had asked the team for a trade. ESPN's Adam Schefter initially reported on the development. Twice since that reporting, Samuel took to social media taking exception with what Schefter was reporting, only to then erase the posts.

Initially, the 49ers Pro Bowl wideout posted to Instagram “@adamschefter hilarious. Mane said because I want to be close to home (rolling on the floor laughing emojis).” Samuel took to Twitter later, posting “Reporters jobs is to make stories only people know the truth about situation is 49ers @ToryDandy and deebo samuel.” Tory Dandy is the San Francisco wide receiver's agent.

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport also reported on the sentiment that Samuel wants out of San Francisco. He noted that “Samuel has just been, as of now, unwilling to accept or engage in any offer or any discussion,” said Rapoport. “And the reason for that, from my understanding, is he simply wants to be elsewhere.”

After the season that Samuel just had, it's no wonder why he would like to be paid. Not only was he named to the All-Pro list in 2021, he had one of the more remarkable seasons for a wide receiver in NFL history. Samuel caught 77 passes for 1,405 yards receiving. But it was what he did on the ground that truly stood out.

The 49ers physical receiver rushed the ball 59 times for 365 yards and eight rushing touchdowns. These were not jet sweeps and passes caught behind the line of scrimmage. San Francisco often lined him up as the sole tailback. That likely has led to the franchise's reluctance to pay him top dollar. They are concerned about his ability to remain healthy.
