San Francisco 49ers star cornerback Richard Sherman has been on a steady path to recovery from a torn Achilles tendon that he suffered last November. Sherman has continued to ramp up his level of activity this offseason that suggest that he will ready by the season opener.

Another a strong indication that will be the case is that the 30-year-old has organized a workout with some of the game's top cornerbacks this week in preparation for the 2018 campaign, according to Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee.

Tuesday's session involved on-field work followed by a panel discussion with venture capitalists about how football players can leverage their business opportunities. Sherman, who played at Stanford, was on the panel.

The group also included Pro Bowlers like Los Angeles Rams cornerback Aqib Talib, Darius Slay of the Detroit Lions and the Minnesota Vikings' Xavier Rhodes. The Arizona Cardinals' Patrick Peterson is expected to join later in the week.

The decision to hold this academy at his alma mater, Stanford, at this stage of the offseason shows that he's continuing to head in the right direction physically. The 49ers are counting on him to be a major part of their secondary not only by his performance on the field but also a leader in the locker room.

Sherman has given every inkling that he will be ready to give it a go by Week 1 against the Minnesota Vikings. The fact that he's working out with some of the league's best cornerbacks shows where his level of confidence and comfort with his body is at during this juncture of the offseason.

These next few weeks prior to the start of training camp next month will give him the chance to further get prepared for the upcoming season while getting some necessary rest to ensure that the recovery process doesn't experience any setbacks. Nonetheless, this is another encouraging sign for the 49ers.
