San Francisco 49ers rookie defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw recently underwent a procedure on his right knee after missing the final two games of the season. Kinlaw posted this to his Instagram:

As you can see, the 23-year-old Kinlaw looks to be in fine spirits following the procedure, but there are concerns about the injury.

Kinlaw had knee tenditis at the NFL Scouting Combine during last year’s offseason, and it was a knee injury that forced Kinlaw out of San Francisco's final two games of the regular season.

49ers GM John Lynch was quoted in a story by Grant Cohn on Sports Illustrated’s FanNation 49ers site about what Kinlaw is going through and if his procedure was related to the tenditis or something else:

“It's just some inflammation in the knee. I think what happened to Javon, if you take back to the Dallas game, it's actually the play when he stripped [Dallas Cowboys QB] Andy Dalton. He's a big man. He came down really hard on his knee and it was a bone bruise, really, is what happened. Just the force of hitting the turf. Felt like we had a chance to get him back that week. The swelling just remained, and it was stubborn. Good news at the end of this week, it started to come out, but he had been out of practice so long. It didn't make sense to put him in the last game. So, that's the deal on Javon Kinlaw.”

Clearly, the 49ers GM was downplaying the issue with Kinlaw as a bone bruise does not require surgery. Let’s hope that Javon Kinlaw recovers speedily in time for his second NFL season with San Francisco
