For the first time in his NFL career, running back Jerick McKinnon will be donning another uniform aside from the Minnesota Vikings after inking a four-year, $30 million deal with the San Francisco 49ers this offseason. This is expected to present a huge level of expectations ahead of him toward being the clear-cut starter in his first campaign with the 49ers

In the time since the move, McKinnon has picked up his offseason workout regimen with the help of former league MVP Adrian Peterson's tutelage and guidance. According to Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee, the 25-year-old stated that he is going to a rigorous training regimen that has tested him physically ahead of training camp opening on April 16.

“Running hella hills,” he said. “We do a lot of hill work, track stuff, box in the offseason, work on our hands for pass (protection) and stuff like that. Basically honing in on little details.”

McKinnon spent his first three years playing alongside Peterson in Minnesota where he received his mentorship and has continued to work out with him in the offseason at his home in Houston since the 2015 offseason. On the field, McKinnon has played in either a split-carry role or was the backup with the Vikings in his first four seasons.

Peterson has plenty to offer behind his Hall of Fame-caliber career that has seen him earn seven Pro Bowl selections, four First-Team All-Pro nods, three Second Team All-Pro selections, an NFL MVP award, and an Offensive Player of the Year award. The 33-year-old may not be the player he once was, but the work ethic off the field that he has developed to reach those impressive peaks over his first 11 NFL seasons.

McKinnon is coming off arguably his best season in the league as he posted a career-high 570 rushing yards with three touchdowns while posting career bests with 51 catches for 421 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Although McKinnon has yet to take on the responsibility of a full-time starter role, he has demonstrated the unique ability to be a dual-threat factor as both a runner and receiver out of the backfield.

With a prime opportunity lined up in front of him in San Francisco, all of this offseason work along with the continued guidance of Peterson it could lead to him putting together a true breakout 2018 campaign.
