Jerry Rice holds no ill will toward Larry FItzgerald. He seems proud of the Arizona Cardinals wide receiver for the incredible level of effectiveness he's been able to maintain in his late thirties, and even expressed adulation at Fitzgerald potentially breaking his NFL record for most career catches. If Fitzgerald ultimately passes Rice on the receptions list, though, one of the reasons the latter won't be worried is because there's no way all of his records will be broken.

In an interview on NFL Network, Rice glowed about Fitzgerald when discussing the possibility of him eclipsing his record of 1,549 career catches.

“This is just year 16 for him; I played 20 years. With the game today you're going to see players playing much longer. The hands on this guy are just unbelievable. He doesn't drop the football. He's very experienced when it comes to getting open and making those difficult catches,” he said of Fitzgerald.

Fitzgerald is currently on pace for 92 catches this season, which would leave him 154 receptions short of Rice's record, one that had long been considered unbreakable. While Jerry Rice allowed for the chance his number will be bested by Fitzgerald, he made sure to tell him recently that most of his other marks in the NFL record book would remain safe.

“It would be great to see, but it's gonna take a couple more years. I told, ‘Larry, here's the deal. If you break one of my records, I still got 36 more.'”

Fitzgerald, 36, has 23 catches for 200 yards and two touchdowns through the first four games of the season.
