San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is looking to bounce back in 2019. Coming off a torn ACL that cost him most of last season, Garoppolo wants to prove that his great starts at the end of 2017 weren't a fluke and that he's worth the massive contract the 49ers handed him.

The 49ers have done a good job of accumulating talent at the skill positions, and possibly their best weapon is tight end, George Kittle. Kittle has proven himself to be one of the top tight ends in the league, and Garoppolo is very excited to get back to work with him.

In a recent interview with Vinnie Iyer of Sporting News, Garoppolo offered an interesting comparison to an old teammate of his. When Iyer asked him about Kittle and another legendary tight end he used to play with, Rob Gronkowski, Garoppolo said the following:

“There are a lot of similarities – on the field and a little bit off the field, too (laughs). George is tremendous. The energy he brings every day, how he goes about his business – he's always having fun while he's doing it. Very similar to Gronk, they both enjoy what they do.”

“It makes everything more enjoyable. It's fun to be around, and it's contagious. To have a guy like that makes our team so much closer as well as much better,” he explained.

While their playful energy might be the same, Kittle is starting to put up Gronkowski-like numbers as well. Last year Kittle put up an absurd 1,377 yards on 88 receptions, and he did it while mostly playing with backup quarterbacks. Gronk is widely regarded as one of the best tight ends of all time, so if Kittle can end up being anything like him, the 49ers will be more than happy.
