San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo won't be playing in the teams preseason opener on Saturday against the Dallas Cowboys but he is expected to get some run in the next two games. 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said after Tuesday's practice that the play was for Garopplo to play in the teams second and third preseason game, but things can always change.

“I expect him to definitiely play (exhibitions) two and three, but nothing is mapped out and set in stone,” Shanahan said via The Mercury News.

When Garoppolo does step on the field it will be his first game action since tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee last September.

Garoppolo has been a full participant in training camp and has looked really good in drills. He has been doing a good job of taking care of the ball and hasn't been throwing many interceptions.

There is some debate if it is a smart move to get Garoppolo in action before the regular season starts but it is probably a good idea to get him hit a couple of times.

Garoppolo hasn't talked much about his knee injury but most players don't say they feel back from an injury until they take a hit and are able to get up from it.

The one thing the 49ers don't want to happen is Garoppolo playing tentatively in the regular season because he is worried about getting hit again and hurt in the process. Look for Garopollo to take a couple of hits in those first two games.
