The San Francisco 49ers are prepared to host the Green Bay Packers for the NFC Championship Game next Sunday. Ahead of the pivotal matchup, Kyle Shanahan is informing his team to prevent themselves from underestimating the Packers.

“Don’t be that stupid,” Shanahan said, via ESPN.com. “That’s not real. This is about Sunday’s game . . . There’s so many stories like that. And this is the NFL, so no team, the game before never matters like that. There are four teams left and that’s four very, very good teams and it’s going to be a hard game for all of us. Also, our players — the type of guys they’ve been all year — I’m not concerned about that. They’ll have to answer that question, I’m sure, a lot. But I don’t think that will be a worry for our players, which means it won’t be for me.”

The 49ers and Packers squared off earlier in the season back in Week 12. In that game, San Francisco blew the doors off of the Packers en route to a 37-8 blowout at Levi's Stadium.

Even though both teams are familiar with each other, they're different teams than they were in November. For starters, Green Bay has strung together six consecutive wins with two of them coming against playoff teams.

Additionally, Aaron Rodgers proved on Sunday versus the Seattle Seahawks that he still can pick apart a defense. In addition, the Packers have a healthier version of Davante Adams available after he hauled in eight receptions for a Packers' playoff record 160 yards and two scores against Seattle.

Shanahan, who was involved in the Atlanta Falcons' 28-3 blown lead in the Super Bowl, understands that anything can happen in the postseason. Given that, the 49ers are trying to avoid overlooking the team that stands between them and the Super Bowl.
