Earlier this week a video went viral of San Francisco 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman being beaten off the line by Marquise Goodwin who went up the sideline and hauled in a deep pass. It prompted many around the league to question just how healthy Sherman is coming off an Achilles injury that he suffered last year.

People inside the organization noticed the video too including Kyle Shanahan who made a point to discuss the play with the team. According to fullback Kyle Juszczyk, Shanahan didn't bash Sherman for getting beat, instead pointing out to always push yourself on the field and praising Sherman for working back from his injury.

“Everybody saw the clip of Marquise and Richard in 1-on-1s and [Shanahan] used that as a coaching point,” Juszczyk said, via the San Francisco Chronicle. “He didn’t get up there and bash on Sherman like ‘We paid you this much and you come out here and give us that?’ It was nothing like that. He actually complimented him because it was his very first rep in 1-on-1s since he’s been injured. and he didn’t hesitate. He was extremely aggressive on the line of scrimmage and, yeah, he got beat deep, but that’s what 1-on-1 are for.”

Sherman is still working back from his Achilles injury and he will be a real storyline to watch heading into preseason games. It will be interesting to see if he still has the speed he had when he was with the Seattle Seahawks or has the injury made him take a step back.
