Nick Bosa typically has not attended voluntary team workouts but the San Francisco 49ers star edge rusher is with the team this week as it continues its offseason program. The defending NFC champions are a talented group led by Bosa and an unprecedented quarterback in Brock Purdy.

Purdy's calm and humble demeanor has resonated with the 49ers roster. His play on the field over the last two seasons has brought stability to a once-revolving door of quarterbacks in San Francisco. There's a possibility the Niners make him the highest-paid quarterback in the league in 2025 when he's first eligible for a contract extension.

Bosa doesn’t think Purdy's price tag will change the QB's character. He compared Purdy to another star athlete, World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler, although Purdy doesn’t have the rap sheet that Scheffler does.

“I don’t think he’s ever going to change, even when he gets paid next year,” Bosa said, per Cam Inman. “He’s a man of faith. He kind of reminds me of Scottie Scheffler, except he didn’t get arrested. He’s just super humble and a really good kid. Yeah, he’s definitely famous”

Bosa's mention of Scheffler's arrest drew a laugh from reporters on Tuesday. The rest of the comparison is spot on though, as Scheffler's recent dominance on the PGA Tour hasn't wavered his humble personality. He's one of many athletes who mentions his faith being among the most important things in life.

Scheffler was unexpectedly arrested last Friday before the second round of the 2024 PGA Championship. He faces four charges, including one felony charge, after what he described as a “misunderstanding” with police.

Brock Purdy's newfound fame

It's incredible to think that a little more than two years ago, Brock Purdy was a rookie making his first impressions in a 49ers uniform after being selected with the last pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. Who could have predicted that by this time he'd be among the best quarterbacks in the NFL and one of the most famous athletes in the San Francisco Bay Area?

Purdy's offseason includes an appearance alongside teammate George Kittle and Luke Combs at the country star's concert at the Niners' stadium last weekend. He received a raucous ovation before throwing the ceremonial first pitch at the May 14 San Francisco Giants game.

With his celebrity status on the rise, Purdy discussed the changes in his life since becoming a starting QB in the NFL.

“Yeah, it's a little different obviously. But at the end of the day, and I've said this a million times, I just try to keep it simple in terms of who I am as a person, as a human,” Purdy said Tuesday, per Angelina Martin.

“There are people that come up and want pictures. It's like, I was that kid growing up and I always wanted whoever I was looking up to or whatever to give time and just be a human and talk and take a picture, sign some stuff. I always remember that. And throughout all this, the offseason stuff and doing different things, I try to give back to people as best as I can, and not be on a pedestal or anything like that.”

The Niners are looking forward to giving Brock Purdy a massive contract. He deserves it for what he's done on and off the field.
