San Francisco 49ers running back Raheem Mostert suffered a knee injury that sidelined him after the first quarter of their week 1 matchup against the Detroit Lions, and many cruel “fans” decided to attack him and his family on social media as a result. Mostert's wife Devon took to Instagram to defend her husband.

“To get on here and have dms about how my husband should kill himself, about how he should be cut, about how he's made of glass,” Mostert wrote on her Instagram story. “I know I shouldn't care, but wow.”

Mostert will surely be missed on the field in the coming weeks, but that's obviously no excuse for fans to hide behind their screens and send hateful messages to him, let alone his wife.

“I try so hard to shake them off,” she continued. “But when there's hundreds, THOUSANDS. It's a lot.”

Devon said that her husband will have an MRI on Monday to determine just how severe the knee injury is. 49ers Head Coach Kyle Shanahan told the media on Sunday that the team's medical staff assured him the knee injury is not related to his ACL.

In Mostert's stead, Shanahan will call on rookie Elijah Mitchell (who ran for a touchdown yesterday against Detroit after subbing in for Mostert) along with JaMycal Hasty and Trey Sermon.
