The San Francisco 49ers and kicker Robbie Gould agreed to a 4-year contract worth $19-million on Monday. This came as somewhat of a shock to quite a few people as it appeared the two sides weren't even close to a deal.

In fact, there was a lot of speculation that the kicker would be returning to the Chicago Bears – his team for more than a decade. It made sense as he loves the city and the team clearly needs a kicker.

However, this saga ended with Gould re-upping with the 49ers. According to Gould on Adam Schefter's podcast it all comes down to how hard of a push San Francisco made for him. Gould called it an “aggressive push”.

This makes absolute sense for the 49ers.  They're a team on the rise, hoping that Jimmy Garoppolo can be their franchise quarterback. If that happens, they could find themselves in the playoff picture.

What does every good team need though? A reliable kicker. A good kicker makes life infinitely easier on the quarterback as he can take so much pressure off. On the other hand, a bad kicker adds tons of unnecessary pressure.

Last season, Gould was an absolutely ridiculous 33-for-34 on attempts – 97.1%. The year before that he was 39-for-41, 95.1%. Those are his only two years with the San Francisco 49ers. Can you see why he was wanted back?

In his career, Gould has made 87.7% of his field goals. That's the kind of kicker you can trust to help make life a lot easier on your young franchise quarterback.

It's no wonder the San Francisco 49ers made such an “aggressive push” for Robbie Gould.
