Count Houston Texans star DeAndre Hopkins as among the growing number of people who have been enamored of San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Dante Pettis.

After going up against San Francisco in a joint practice on Thursday,  Joe Fann of 49ers.com noted on Twitter that Hopkins and Pettis “slapped hands” with the former telling the rookie “I like your game, man. I like your game.”

Fann also tried to get the side of Pettis, who was understandably thrilled by Hopkins’ assessment of his performance.

I just asked Dante Pettis about his post-practice exchange with DeAndre Hopkins:

“That was awesome, man. We hadn’t talked at all. We were on different fields and everything.”

He was visibly pumped about it, as he should be.

Pettis was selected by the 49ers in second round of this year’s NFL Draft, and Hopkins’ compliments should inspire him to do better in this coming Saturday’s preseason game in Houston. Pettis, who is the son of former Major League Baseball outfielder, Gary Pettis, had a catch on four targets and finished with 54 receiving yards in last week’s 24-21 come-from-behind win at home over the Dallas Cowboys.

The 49ers’ offense is under a new conductor in Jimmy Garoppolo, and if Pettis can strengthen his chemistry with the quarterback, the former Washington Husky could find himself carving out a much more relevant role downfield next season.
