Growing up in San Mateo California, it only makes sense that Tom Brady was raised as a die-hard San Fransisco 49ers fan. As a big Niners fan in the '80s and early '90s, there was no bigger role model than Joe Montana.

While Brady was in attendance for “The Catch” in the 1981 NFC Championship game, the future Hall of Famer was also there for Montana's last game in Candlestick Park.

“I was at Joe’s last game at Candlestick Park,” Brady said in his introfuctory press conference with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.  “I actually went up there and saw it with my friend. I’ll never forget that. He was an incredible player. He and Steve Young were my quarterback idols growing up.”

That game,  a week 17 matchup between San Fransisco and the Detroit Lions happened to be the only game that Montana played in 1992 after missing the 1991 season due to injury. In one half, the Niners legend completed 15 of his 21 passes for 126 yards and two touchdowns while also adding 28 rushing yards and leading the 49ers to a 24-6 victory.

Montana would go on to play his last two seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs before retiring in 1994.

As for Brady, the 42-year-old is taking a similar path. After playing 20 seasons with the New England Patriots and bringing the team six championships, Brady recently signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on a two-year deal worth $50 million. Like his idol on the 49ers, Brady will likely finish his career on a team other than the one everyone will associate him with.
