For San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan, it's been a treat watching offensive live man Trent Williams battle it out with defensive end Nick Bosa at training camp.
Shanahan shared his thoughts on watching Williams and Bosa face off. He noted that it's been entertaining — seeing the sheer talent the two possess and how they compete with one another.
“Watching those two go together is pretty cool,” Shanahan said on Monday, per Keiana Martin of 49ers.com. “It's fun to watch them adjust to each other.”
Bosa is entering his second year in the league after a superb rookie campaign. He was named into the Pro Bowl and was also crowned AP NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year. Williams, for his part, just joined the 49ers via trade after a nine-year stint with the Washington Red Skins. A seven-time Pro Bowl himself, Williams is expected to fortify the 49ers offensive line.
While Bosa has some apprehensions regarding one-on-one drills, he still realizes its intrinsic value. He's taking the exercise as a way to reevaluate his own game.
“I think anybody would tell you, O-line or D-line, (1-on-1 drills are) not the most realistic thing compared to team reps, but it's definitely a good tool to work on something you may have wanted to work on,” Bosa said.
On facing Williams, Bosa admitted that it's tough. He also observed that the 32-year-old is looking healthy again.
“You're not going to beat Trent clean very often. So getting a clean win on him is a good feeling,” Bosa said. “It definitely seems like he's feeling great and playing really well.
From the looks of it, 49ers sure have a lot to be thrilled about on the defensive and offensive end.
