Kyrie Irving is a very interesting dude. He's simply not like any other basketball player in the league.
However, there might be one or two things you don't know about the All-Star point guard. Below are some not-so-known facts about Irving, that may (or may not) change your perception of him.
1. A Basketball Prodigy
We all know how Irving is the owner of one of the best handles in the league — not just in the present, but arguably of all time. As it turns out, his folks already knew that he was in for a bright future in basketball as a very young child — 13 months to be exact. At just a little over one-year-old, Irving could reportedly already dribble the basketball. Starting at such a young age, it's no wonder why he currently has such insane dribbling skills today.
2. Cavs Record-Holder
LeBron James may be the greatest Cleveland Cavaliers player of all time, but he does not hold the team's scoring record — at least not all of them.
The most points scored in a single game is held by none other than Irving himself. On March 14, 2015, against no less than the defending champs at that time, the San Antonio Spurs, Irving dropped a cool 57 points on 6-of-6 from rainbow territory.
3. The Flat Earth Apology
Irving is undeniably the most popular flat-earther in the NBA. As a matter of fact, he might be the only one in the entire league — both past and present — who actually believe that the earth is flat.
In 2017, Irving stated numerous times that he believes that the earth is flat — a conspiracy theory that is actually propagated by some radical societies. This caused quite a ruckus, and Irving's tone softened as the months passed by. Finally, in October of 2018, Irving apologized for his comments.

You can't tell me anything,'” Irving said in an interview (h/t ESPN). “I'm sorry about all that. For all the science teachers, everybody coming up to me like, ‘You know I have to reteach my whole curriculum!' I'm sorry. I apologize. I apologize.”
Irving did not backtrack on his conspiracy theory, but at least he apologized for all the confusion he may have brought forth.
4. Aussie Roots
While he is an American citizen — he's actually represented the nation as part of Team USA on several occasions — Irving was actually born in Melbounre, Australia on March 23, 1992.
Irving was born to American parents, and his father, Dredrick, moved to Australia to pursue a basketball career professionally. It wasn't long before they moved back to the States, though, and it was actually in West Orange, New Jersey where Irving grew up. Nevertheless, he still holds dual citizenship with Australia and the US, and at one point, Irving even seriously playing for Australia in the 2012 Olympics.
5. The Renaissance Man
While this may not be as surprising given Irving's unique personality, it's still certainly a fact worth mentioning. He is, in fact, quite the Renaissance man.
Aside from enjoying the occasional novel, Irving also keeps a personal journal where he jots down his thoughts every now and again. He also has a love for music, and does not only listen to it, but also plays quite a tune. His instrument of choice is the saxophone, on which he plays baritone. Finally, this cultured gentleman also has a background in theater. During his high school days in Saint Patrick in Elizabeth in New Jersey, Irving actually took part in his school's on-stage of Disney's “High School Musical.” If only we could get a copy of that tape.
