Activision Blizzard has recently announced their newest mobile game project that has been in development for several years now. While many have been speculating over what kind of game it would be, Blizzard fans were hoping to see the heroic fantasy of the original Warcraft games faithfully brought over to the mobile platform.

As it turns out, they did the exact opposite.

With the reveal of Warcraft Arclight Rumble, they have created a bright and colorful game that's clearly aimed toward a younger, more casual audience. As a strategy action game set in the Warcraft universe, players can collect miniature combatants known as “Warcraft Minis” and use them in quick skirmishes that can be completed within a few minutes.

While the overall premise of Warcraft Arclight Rumble isn't bad by any means, the fan reception to the newly revealed mobile title has been very negative, as the disconnect between the Blizzard of old and the fans of classic Blizzard games is very apparent. From the time of this article being posted, the reveal trailer has been sitting around 17,000+ dislikes to only 5,600+ likes. Many responses to the reveal include negative comments such as:

“Fitting that it starts out with the player putting money in. This is clearly marketed towards kids and is just another creative way to siphon money from them.” -Shawn G K

“Behold, the last gasp of the Warcraft IP” -AnnaBanana

“The magic of Blizzard is gone.” -Chad

While there is nothing wrong with wanting to expand the IP into different territories, much like with Hearthstone, fans cannot help but feel that the Blizzard side of Activision Blizzard is fading more and more as time goes on. Maybe these few blunders will serve as a wake-up call for the company, or perhaps it's time for the fans to let these franchises go by the wayside.

While Warcraft Arclight Rumble will be available on Android and iOS devices.
