When addressing the media before Forbidden Door, AEW‘s owner, Tony Khan, had a lot to say.

He discussed when wrestlers became available for the show, when more matches for the show would be announced, and even suggested that the two promotions have been discussing Forbidden Door 2, despite the first show having yet to officially hit the books as a resounding success.

But sandwiched in his comments was a very interesting tidbit that maybe isn't too surprising all things considered but creates some interesting opportunities indeed: Khan has okayed AEW wrestlers to wear NJPW belts and vice versa.

Now granted, this shouldn't be too surprising; there are four cross-promotional title matches on Forbidden Door, and at least one of them, the three-way tag bout between FTR, Roppongi Vice, and the United Empire duo of Jeff Cobb and Great-O-Khan, will feature a title change since the match is a winner-take-all event for both the ROH Tag Team Championship belts and the IWGP Tag Team Championship belts, but still, for an evolutionary event where promotions typically try to protect their titles, it's intriguing to know that the AEW World Championship, the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship, and even the All-Atlantic Championship could end up around the waist of a less than predictable performer.

Could we see Hiroshi Tanahashi leave Forbidden Door with a slightly heavier carry-on bag? Or what about FTR expanding their championship win streak to now feature tag team championship belts from WWE, NXT, AEW, Ring of Honor, and now NJPW? Goodness, maybe Clark Connors, fresh off replacing Tomohiro Ishii in the All-Atlantic Championship finale, will shock the world and earn the strap. Either way, the prospects of the cross-promotional event just became a whole lot more interesting.
