When news broke that the Young Bucks, Nicholas and Matthew Jackson, were set to earn their very own signature pair of Reebok Pumps, it felt like a massive announcement not just for fans of AEW's EVPs, but for both wrestling and sneaker fans the world over.

Now granted, this isn't the first time the Jackson brothers have landed a pair of sneakers with their names on them, as they were given a pair of Diadoras a few years back, but this was a deal with one of the big four sneaker companies using a silhouette they have actually wrestled in during the early phases of their careers.

Discussing how the massive branding deal came together ahead of AEW Double or Nothing in Las Vegas, Nevada, in a special interview with Sports Illustrated, Matthew and Nicholas celebrated the news, noting that you have to be truly elite to be in The Elite and getting signature sneakers firmly falls into that category.

“To be in The Elite, you have to be part of the one percent in the wrestling business,” Matthew Jackson told Sports Illustrated. “You have to be a special, special talent. You’ve gotta have movie star good looks, and a catalog of big matches like The Rainmaker. Or, you have to be a young, brilliant mind with world championship material like The Scapegoat. How do you be an honorary member of this exclusive club? You grab a pair of our limited-edition Reebok Superkick Pumps at champssports.com on May 27. Or, if you’re fortunate enough to be in the Vegas area this weekend, you might be in luck.”

“This is really a bucket list item we get to check off the list,” said Nicolas Jackson. “I never in my wildest dreams thought we’d have a Reebok shoe. What’s crazy is I always wore Reeboks early on in my career. It’s full circle and that’s what makes this so much more special. It blows my mind, and it makes me feel so blessed to be living the dream.”

While the Young Bucks are most well known for wearing Jordans in the ring, specifically limited edition ones that draw headlines when they do something crazy like covering them in tacks, Nicholas really was wrestling in Reeboks early in his career, with pictures from his backyard days proving that fact on social media. So when the opportunity arose for the brothers to make their own pair, well, it seemed like a perfect fit.

The Young Bucks hope to start a trend of signature wrestling sneakers.

Continuing their conversation with Sports Illustrated, Nicholas and Matthew Jackson explained how they landed on their current design and why it was important for them to choose the Pumps over some other silhouette.

“Family, wrestling, and sneakers definitely describe Matthew and Nicholas Jackson,” Matthew Jackson noted. “We wanted this new sneaker to match our current aesthetic–a solid black, with some fun familiar Young Bucks flare. A versatile sneaker that you can wear to the ring, on the court, at home, traveling, or even in business meetings. I’ve worn them with a suit, gym clothes, and everyday wear, and they go nice with everything. After a quick sell-out of our first Diadora Sneaker, Reebok approached us about working together. When they mentioned giving us our own sneaker design on the classic Reebok Omni 2 Pump, we didn’t even think twice. We’re two of the first wrestlers to get a major sneaker deal, so I can only hope that we are blazing yet another path to helping wrestlers succeed even more, outside of the ring.”

“When I was a kid on the playground, you either had Air Jordan’s, or you had a pair of Reebok Pump. Those were the accepted sneakers,” Nicholas Jackson recalled. “I remember when I was 18 years old, standing in my backyard wrestling ring wearing a pair of Reebok Pump. They’re retro, yet timeless. There’s something magical and satisfying about leaning down and pumping air into that iconic basketball on the top of the sneaker.”

With the Young Bucks not only vowing to wear their new shoes in their Anarchy in the Arena match versus Team AEW at Double or Nothing but shooting all sorts of commercials for the kicks alongside the promotion's other wrestlers that they can air for free on Dynamte, Rampage, Collision, and even at Double or Nothing, it's safe to say Reebok has landed a pair of willing partners who are happy to do whatever they can to sell a few more shoes, especially if it means they can make even more at some point down the line.
