Following the trade of Alex Smith to the Washington Redskins, it has quickly made Kirk Cousins the most-sought out quarterback that will be on the open market.

According to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, Cousins is expected to draw significant interest from several different teams in free agency.

It had already been previously reported that both the Denver Broncos and Cleveland Browns would be in the market to acquire Cousins. Broncos All-Pro outside linebacker Von Miller made that clear on Wednesday morning during an interview on “The Dan Patrick Show” voicing that he believes the 29-year-old could take the team “over the edge” next season and beyond.

Meanwhile, there have been reports that Cousins could have interest in joining the Browns if things were to work out in that manner over the offseason. Pro Bowl offensive tackle Joe Thomas has also stated that he wants his team to make a push to sign the Pro Bowl quarterback.

However, the possible inclusion of the Minnesota Vikings, Jacksonville Jaguars and New York Jets could complicate things a bit with the chance of it turning into a bidding war for him. The Vikings will likely sort out their quarterback situation first with their three options in Case Keenum, Sam Bradford, and Teddy Bridgewater all set to become free agents.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are expected to bring back Blake Bortles, who has one more year left on his deal being the fifth-year option worth $19 million. However, if Cousins were to express interest in joining Jacksonville, it could see the front office work diligently to get out from under Bortles' contract.

Lastly, the Jets are once again looking to find an upgrade at the position after another disappointing season. Josh McCown provided some sort of stability, but he isn't their long-term answer, which has become further clouded with both Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg failing to show any promise in their play. All of this figures to lead to a busy shuffling between the teams toward making a serious play to landing Cousins, who will undoubtedly be in line for a major payday on his next deal.
