Amar'e Stoudemire‘s retirement announcement probably came as a surprise to most people.

Stoudemire, just 33 years old, would have been entering his 15th season in the NBA. After one season with the Miami Heat last year, he signed a one-day contract with the Knicks yesterday so he could retire with the New York franchise.

Stoudemire's days in the NBA are likely finished, but he might not be done playing basketball.

Stoudemire wouldn't be the first former NBA All-Star to make his way to China. Whether during a lockout or once they're washed up, many NBA stars have played in the Chinese Basketball Association.

Some of those players include: Gilbert Arenas, Steve FrancisAl HarringtonStephon MarburyTracy McGrady and Metta World Peace.

These players went on to become CBA All-Stars: Michael Beasley, Aaron Brooks, Lester Hudson, Kenyon Martin, Shavlik Randolph and J.R. Smith.

Stoudemire could be next.

Stein also reports that Stoudemire is going to take some time before making this decision. The CBA will surely wait on him and gladly accept him with open arms if he does decide to head out there.

Stoudemire may be able to make more money in China and perhaps feels the level of competition is better suited to this stage of career. Otherwise, it doesn't quite seem to make sense to leave the NBA. Maybe he just feels it's time.
