The Los Angeles Angels have a problem. Anaheim has become home to generational talents, from the spectacular two-way player Shohei Ohtani to arguably the best player in baseball with Mike Trout. And yet, the Angels have missed the postseason six straight years. They haven't even made it past the ALDS since 2009. For the Angels, their woes largely lie in their lackluster pitching depth. But this year, they've decided to address this issue-and in a big way.

After 20 rounds of the MLB Draft, the Angels have walked away with exactly 20 rookie pitchers – and zero hitters. To say the least, Los Angeles was very prepared to address their pitching.

As reported by Jack Harris from the Los Angeles Times, Matt Swanson, the Angels scouting director, said that, while it was not in their plans to draft a pitcher every round, the position was an “area of focus”. Considering their recent play, it's easy to understand why.

While the Angels still float just below .500, the team isn't bad all-around. Currently they rank top-ten in multiple offensive categories, from batting average (.257, 5th) to RBIs (414, 9th) to home runs (123, t-4th).

But the story remains the same: the pitching lets them down. The Angels rank fifth-worst in team ERA at 4.90, with their bullpen alone ranking ninth-worst at 4.70. They've also blown nineteen save opportunities across the season, further highlighting how self-destructive the team has been.

However, this draft should help imbue hope within the Angels fanbase. Sam Bachman, their first round pick out of Miami (OH), is an absolute flamethrower, having topped over 101mph on his fastball while fanning 93 batters.

Ky Bush out of St. Mary's, a pitcher some would consider a late bloomer, has improved from his early college days at Washington State, gaining great command over the zone with good bite on his pitches.

Plus, there's Landon Marceaux out of LSU, a perfectionist capable of shutting out teams across multiple starts.

The future is bright in L.A, and there's no place better for these stars to shine. Although considering these picks, they might have to share the spotlight a bit.
