Anthony Bennett was selected by the Cleveland Cavaliers with the #1 pick in the 2013 NBA draft, which in itself was fairly underwhelming. The pressure of being selected at the top of the board may have played a factor in Bennett’s future in the league, as he had an absolutely horrific rookie season, averaging four points and just three rebounds per game.

The Canadian’s performances didn’t improve all that much over the next two years, after he was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves and then the Toronto Raptors. It was quickly agreed around the league that Bennett was a ‘bust’. Other players that were picked later on in the draft were given time to develop, while the former UNLV big man found himself out of contract and out of the league.

Well, it appears that the NBA dream may not be over for Bennett.

The Brooklyn Nets, who find themselves in a basketball no man’s land, struggling to attract superstar free agents whilst the Boston Celtics hold possession to their draft picks until 2019, apparently want to roll the dice on the forward.

Brooklyn have picked up Jeremy Lin during this free agency period, to join Brook Lopez and Thaddeus Young. Many believe that the team are on the path to hand the Celtics another high draft pick this year, gambling on someone like Bennett seems like a worthwhile move with very little downside, should he have some untapped potential left in the tank.

One thing is for sure: Anthony Bennett will know that he has a lot to prove.
