The Oakland Athletics are still pursuing a brand new waterfront ballpark in Oakland. If not, they aren't afraid to relocate, as reports mentioned a few months back.
On Tuesday, the Athletics bid for a new stadium hit a major snag when meeting with the city, and things aren't looking too good at this juncture.
According to Alden Gonzalez of ESPN, the city voted in favor of the athletics terms, although it is more complicated than that.
It’s now up to the A’s to decide whether they will keep negotiating, but yesterday, A’s president Dave Kaval said a vote on the city’s plan is “akin to a ‘no’ vote.”

So while the proposal went through, this isn't the terms the Athletics wanted, apparently. What is going on here?
The Athletics are playing hardball and for good reason. They can leave and relocate pretty easily, with Las Vegas being one rumored suitor for the club if they do decide to move.
Earlier, the Athletics seemed to give the city an ultimatum of some sorts, so this isn't looking like it is making any common ground whatsoever.
A’s president Dave Kaval said that term sheet “is not a business partnership that works for us.” Council member Carroll Fife: “I don’t know where we go from here. … It’s not a negotiation. It’s, ‘Do what we say or we leave.’ That is not ‘rooted.’”

It looks more and more likely that the A's will up and leave town eventually and relocate unless the city caves and gives them what they want. Only time will tell, but for now, this is where things stand regarding their desire for a brand new waterfront stadium.
