Barcelona came away with a 1-1 home draw result in the opening leg of its Europa League playoff tie against Napoli, which featured a roller-coaster showing from forward Ferran Torres.

The Spanish international was quite active in Barca’s attack over the course of the match, as he logged 81 touches and created a pair of goal-scoring chances for teammates. However, Torres was not much efficient against the Serie A side, which included seven shots off target and 14 ground duels lost.

Even as Torres had multiple pivotal goal-scoring chances, he failed to record an open play goal, although he did end up converting on his penalty attempt in the second half.

Torres was visibly emotional following the match.

In the big picture, Barca manager Xavi Hernandez still has much confidence in Torres moving forward, which he touched on in his post-match press conference.

“Now we were making a comparison in the locker room,” Xavi said. “It happened to Luis Suarez, who looked like he didn't have a goal. The Barca shirt weighs a few kilos more. But I'm delighted to have him in the team and he will bring a lot of joy.

“If he is in the area, it is because he will score. He has had a goal all his life and he will have it. In training, he is one of those who scores the most. He has our absolute confidence. He has to change the chip. It won't affect him. I'm in charge of this, the staff. He is very strong, self-demanding.”

Overall, Torres has recorded four goal contributions in his early run with Barca so far this season, which include the first half assist in the La Liga home fixture against Atletico Madrid.

The return leg of Barcelona’s Europa League knockout stage clash with Napoli will come next Thursday, but before it, the Catalan side will have an away league encounter with Valencia.
