Barcelona came away with yet another difficult UEFA Champions League defeat against Bayern Munich, as the Bundesliga powerhouse secured a key 3-0 win on matchday one of the competition’s group stage round.

After a promising start to the season in La Liga play, the main talking points regarding Barca have now quickly changed following this defeat to Bayern Munich. Barca simply looked like a shell of its former self over the course of the match, as it failed to record a shot on target in a Champions League match for the first time in club history.

Barca forward Memphis Depay is still shell-shocked by the blowout defeat to the reigning Bundesliga champions. But as he recently noted, he is still much confident in the squad at this early point in the season.

“The result against Bayern was obviously disappointing,” Depay said. “We have to learn from defeats and all keep heading in the same direction to turn a difficult situation around. But I strongly believe that we’ll find a way to fight for every title. We are Barca and I want to help the club to change things.

“We have a lot of games ahead. The young players are ready to take their chances. We have a lot of quality and they are working hard to improve. The most important thing is for them to enjoy playing.

“We want to be as strong as any opponent. We work and train hard to compete. I’m sure we can surprise a lot of people. We have the players to create good football.”

For now, Barcelona will have three straight La Liga fixtures upcoming before it returns to Champions League action later this month with the key group stage matchup against Portuguese side Benfica. Much attention is expected to center on just how Barca will now respond to adversity after this demolishing home defeat.
