Ronald Koeman hints at true feelings about current Barcelona squad
Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman has expressed his disappointment on his team’s recent performance against Granada.
Evaluating Barcelona’s showing against Granada Monday, Koeman stressed that he has been trying to make the best out of a team that is not as exceptional as it was in the past.
“Look at our squad list,” Koeman said after the game via Marca. “We did what we could. We don’t have the players from the tiki-taka days. We have to play with our own style. I think we did well and, with some more time, we could have won. The basic system was 4-3-3 in the first half, then I had to make changes based on what I had on the bench.”
“This isn’t the Barcelona of eight years ago,” he pointed out. “That’s the way it is.”
Koeman further added that though Barcelona has lost its attacking stars, the team itself lacked the determination to win.
“You can’t be happy with a draw against Granada,” the manager lashed out. “We fought and did well in the second half. But from the second minute they wasted time, and that has to change.
“We lost a lot of time for nonsense, and injuries that weren’t injuries,” he added. “The referee has to cut this out before the 88th minute.”
Barcelona will be looking to bounce back on Thursday when the team takes on Cadiz at Estadio Nuevo Mirandilla.
