The Chicago Bears will play the second half of Sunday's game against the Detroit Lions without the services of inside linebacker Danny Trevathan. He sustained an elbow injury earlier in the contested. The team announced his downgrade from questionable to out.

Before his departure, Trevathan collected three combined tackles. With the trio of tackles to his credit, he has now compiled 70 across nine games in 2019. The eight-year veteran has three double-digit tackle performances across those outings.

The Chicago defense found itself in a prime position Sunday when Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford was ruled out shortly before kickoff (back). The inexperienced signal-caller Jeff Driskel is taking over in his place. Additionally, Detroit had already been with bell-cow running back Kerryon Johnson on the injured reserve.

Without Trevathan in the mix, expect Nick Kwiatkoski to see some extra snaps in his stead. How Chicago will cover for Trevathan's absence beyond Sunday is unknown to this point. Though, based on the visual severity of the injury, it may be unlikely that he travels to Los Angeles to take on the Rams.

Trevathan played in all 16 games for the Bears last season. The veteran arrived after playing out his rookie contract in Denver. He compiled over 100 tackles in 2018 — his third-time accomplishing said mark. Chicago's defense will be vital to them, making a push towards the postseason over the final two months of the season. Without Trevathan available, the team will have to get creative to replace his contributions.
