Ben Askren is not one to shy away from having a different or potentially controversial opinion. The retired MMA fighter and former boxer was an outlier when it came to the Jake Paul vs Tyron Woodley decision Sunday night.

On a video posted to his Instagram, Askren noted he thought Woodley won the fight and should have been given the nod. He felt Woodley had done enough to win at least five rounds.

The post on Instagram reads: “I thought Tyron won but Jake definitely gained my respect. I think a rematch happens, makes too much sense.”

It's important to note that Askren and Woodley have been training partners for years. The question then becomes ‘is Ben Askren supporting his teammate or did he really have Woodley winning?'

It's clear that Woodley is pushing hard for a rematch so it would make sense for Ben Askren to help that push. It's a notable situation because it seemed clear for many fans watching that Paul had done enough to get the victory.

In the video, Askren said: “I had it scored 5 to 3,” he said in the video. “The way that I saw it was that he was more aggressive, stalking, and he landed more effective punches.”

Ben Askren wasn't the only one that thought Woodley won. One of the judges gave the win to Woodley on their respective scorecard.

Ben Askren was the last man to fight Paul before the Woodley match. He would go on to lose via knockout in the first round.
