Kansas City Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu sees that the Cincinnati Bengals have a special quarterback in Joe Burrow.

In speaking following the 2022 AFC Championship Game, Mathieu took some time to laud Burrow and just what makes the Bengals quarterback a quality passer in the NFL today.

“Smart quarterback,” Mathieu said. “Obviously, this kid studies a lot of tape and has the instincts to go with it. He made a couple third own scrambles today that lifted their team.”

Burrow had the last laugh against the Chiefs in both meetings this season. He mounted a 14-point comeback in the Bengals’ Week 17 regular season home victory over Kansas City, which included a notable four-touchdown showing. Later in the month, the second-year quarterback once again rose to the occasion, as he guided the team back from a 21-3 deficit in the AFC title game to clinch a spot in Super Bowl 56.

Mathieu sure is not the only defensive back who can attest to Burrow’s stout play as a passer, especially as a multitude of opposing secondaries have not had much of an answer for him this season.

Burrow is now set to lead the Bengals in next month’s Super Bowl 56. He heads into the game with a 7-0 postseason record in his football career, which includes four such wins during his run at LSU.
