The San Francisco 49ers will take on the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Divisional Round. It's time to continue our NFL odds series and make a 49ers-Packers prediction and pick.
These teams have had vastly different roads to this point. San Francisco looked like a fringe playoff team for most of the year, but a revitalized offense led by wide receiver Deebo Samuel helped the Niners earn the sixth seed and a playoff win against the Dallas Cowboys. Now they encounter Aaron Rodgers and the Packers in Lambeau Field. Green Bay has been one of the most dominant teams in the NFL all season long behind a suffocating defense and an MVP-caliber season from Rodgers.

Why The 49ers Could Cover The Spread
Article Continues BelowAs always, the Niners field a fantastic rushing offense. In their matchup with the Cowboys, San Francisco ran for a whopping 169 yards and two touchdowns while having a number of runs wiped out by penalties. Head coach Kyle Shanahan is always a safe bet to produce an elite run scheme, and this season is no different. The Packers only allow 109 rushing yards per contest, but they give up 4.7 yards per carry to opposing ballcarriers. This is a solid matchup for the Niners' offense.
The last time these teams played, the Packers came out on top by two points. It took a miraculous last-second drive from Aaron Rodgers to give Green Bay the win, so it's fair to say that the Niners can hang with this team. It helps that Rodgers is 0-3 against the 49ers in postseason play. Giving the Packers almost a full touchdown is giving them a bit too much credit in what should be another incredibly close matchup.
Why The Packers Could Cover The Spread
While the Niners only allow 206 passing yards per game, they aren't a particularly good pass defense. San Francisco allows a 68% completion percentage to opposing passers while only facing 32 pass attempts per game. The secondary is susceptible, as starting cornerbacks Josh Norman and Emmanuel Moseley have each been completely torched at different points this season. Packers wide receiver Davante Adams went off for 132 yards and a score the last time these teams played, and it's easy to see a repeat performance from him and the passing game as a whole.
San Francisco will enter this game with a number of nagging injuries to key players. Star defensive end Nick Bosa, who may be the Niners' best overall player, is dealing with a concussion suffered against the Cowboys. Starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is nursing a shoulder and a hand injury, and linebacker Fred Warner is coming off of an ankle sprain also suffered last week. These injuries won't keep any of those players on the sideline in a playoff game, but it should limit the effectiveness of three of San Francisco's best players.
Final 49ers-Packers Prediction & Pick
The Packers are being given too much credit here. Five and a half points is just too big of a line for a good Niners team that has played Green Bay close in the past. Take San Francisco to cover easily.
Final 49ers-Packers Prediction & Pick: San Francisco 49ers: +5.5 (-110)
