Why The Buccaneers Could Cover The Spread
The Buccaneers should be in a great spot to pick up another win here over a Jets team that has just not been very good this season. Tom Brady is having another excellent season and the Buccaneers are fairly loaded, and healthy heading towards an NFC South championship. Tampa Bay will be locked in for this one as they still have a chance at the No. 1 seed in the NFC and a first-round bye. The Buccaneers need the Packers to lose at some point to make that a real possibility, but regardless overall seeding is still at large. The Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Rams are currently tied with Tampa at 11-4 so each game is huge at this point.
Article Continues BelowThe Buccaneers will be without running back Leonard Fournette (on IR until postseason) and receiver Chris Godwin (torn ACL, out for season) in this game.
Tampa Bay vs. the spread
The Buccaneers are just 3-5 against the spread as road favorites this season. Tampa Bay has covered in five of their last six games including three double-digit spreads over that period. The Bucs are 8-7 against the spread overall this season.
Why The Jets Could Cover The Spread
The Jets won at home last week vs. a bad Jacksonville Jaguars team. This will be a much tougher home test as Tom Brady and the Buccaneers come to town. Zach Wilson and the Jets had a good game on the ground in Week 16 with 273 rushing yards on 36 carries as a team, including Wilson's 52-yard touchdown run. Wilson was not near as effective through the air however as he threw for just 102 yards on 22 pass attempts. The Buccaneers stop the run at an elite clip, so Wilson will be forced to throw for the Jets to move the ball in this one. This could be problematic recipe for the rookie quarterback vs. a very good Buccaneers pass rush. The Jets may be able to cover in this one if their defense can pressure Brady in addition to Wilson not turning the ball over.
New York vs. the spread
The Jets are 5-10 against the spread so far this season and 2-5 as home underdogs vs. the number. New York has covered in three of their last five games as Zach Wilson has looked a bit better of late. The large spread in this matchup makes the Jets somewhat appealing.
Final Buccaneers-Jets Prediction and Pick
Take the Buccaneers to cover here with a big win. The Jets have looked a little better on offense at times the past two weeks, but still not that great overall. Brady and company should cruise to a multi-possession win over New York.
Final Buccaneers-Jets Prediction & Pick: Buccaneers -13 (-110)
