The Cardinals travel to The Big Easy to take on the Saints in the final preseason game for each team. It’s time to continue our NFL odds series and make a Cardinals-Saints prediction and pick.
The Cardinals have one of the best young quarterbacks in football, Kyler Murray. Meanwhile, the Saints are entering their first season of the post-Drew Brees era. In New Orleans, there is an ongoing quarterback battle between Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill that will surely be featured in this matchup. For the Cardinals, they'll mostly just be focused on getting their starters ready for Week 1.
Here’s how the bookmakers have set the lines for Saturday’s matchup.

Colt McCoy will get one last chance here to prove he's worthy of the backup job. Last week, McCoy went 13-for-18 with an 113 passing yards and an interception. Despite the bad performance, he needs a much better showing in the preseason finale to prove to Arizona's coaching staff that he's capable of handling backup quarterback duties for this team. With a bad performance, don't be surprised if McCoy is cut all together. As a veteran, he doesn't seem like the type of player to just linger on a practice squad. My bet is that McCoy steps up against New Orleans' backups, plays much better than last week, and keeps Arizona close throughout most of the game. If the game comes down to the fourth quarter, this is anyone's ballgame, and the Cardinals can surely cover the three point spread by that point.
Why The Saints Could Cover
The question as to who will start for the Saints at quarterback in Week 1 continues to be asked. But it seems that Jameis Winston has the edge right now. Last week, Winston went 9-for-10 witt 123 passing yards and two touchdowns in the air. Meanwhile, Taysom Hill went 11-for-120 with 138 yards and a passing touchdown of his own. Winston had fewer snaps but seemed to have the better game overall. I'd think the Saints will evaluate both quarterbacks equally again this week. With two starting caliber arms playing in this game, the Saints will play better than most teams in a typical preseason ender. The Saints are actually playing for something meaningful here, giving them enough reason to stack up points and cover the spread.
Final Cardinals-Saints Prediction & Pick
Given the Saints quarterback situation, that is clearly the most meaningful storyline here. The Saints have two great quarterbacks in this game, while the Cardinals will feature McCoy going for the backup job. No comparison there. Playing for something counts in the preseason. Saints win by at least four points.
FINAL PICK: Saints -3 (-125)
