Washington will face the Eagles on Tuesday as each team is still fighting for position the NFC Wild Card race. Washington enters Week 15 as the No. 7 seed, which is the final playoff spot in the NFC. The Eagles appear to be set to get quarterback Jalen Hurts back in Week 15, while Washington QB Taylor Heinicke seems to be on track to play Sunday after exiting early with an elbow injury in the Week 14 loss to Dallas. Why Washington Could Cover The Spread
A Covid outbreak within Washington's locker room resulted in this game being delayed by over 48 hours. Washington hopes to have enough healthy players by Tuesday afternoon for kickoff. The quarterback position is huge question mark however as starter Taylor Heinicke is unlikely to clear the Covid protocols by Tuesday afternoon. Backup Kyle Allen has a better chance of doing so, but if he's unable to go it is likely going to be someone off the practice squad like Garrett Gilbert or Kyle Shurmur starting at QB for Washington in this one.
Defensively, Washington is a bit banged up now with Chase Young gone for the year and others out as well on the defensive line. The Eagles like to run the ball, and Washington has been solid vs. the run this season, allowing just 93 rushing yards per game. It will be interesting to see how much the Eagles try to take advantage of a suspect pass defense for the Football Team. Washington is 3-3 on the road and 5-8 vs. the spread this season.
Why The Eagles Could Cover The Spread
The return of Jalen Hurts is massive for the Eagles. Hurt leads the team in rushing yards and rushing touchdowns, and has became the key piece of that offense. DeVonta Smith is having a solid rookie season, leading Philadelphia with 50 catches for 701 yards and four touchdowns. The Eagles should have the ability to make plays in the passing game in this one so Smith could be in store for a big day in this one. The Eagles should look to throw as Washington is down their top pass rusher in Chase Young. Washington has injury and COVID issues mounting so this may be a spot for the Eagles to cover. The Eagles are 1-4 at home and 7-6 vs. the spread so far this season.
