The Oregon State Beavers, as college basketball odds analysts know, were just a few minutes — and a few points — from the Final Four last year. OSU was neck and neck with Houston in the final two and a half minutes of the Beavers' Elite Eight game in the 2021 NCAA Tournament. The Beavers couldn't grab a few defensive rebounds and came up just short against the Cougars. It was still an incredible run for a team which shocked the nation by not only winning the Pac-12 Tournament with three victories in three days, but then winning three NCAA Tournament games over higher seeds.

Oregon State pulled a 12-over-5 upset against Tennessee. Then the Beavers stunned Cade Cunningham and Oklahoma State in the second round. Then OSU ambushed the Loyola-Chicago team which had just taken down top-seeded Illinois and was many experts' favorite to advance to the Final Four from that part of the bracket. OSU played tremendous defense and got timely baskets from Ethan Thompson and Warith Alatishe. The Beavers did everything right, and it nearly led to a first Final Four appearance for the school since 1963. Optimism reigned in Corvallis — not that OSU would continue to compete for Final Fours, but that a relatively stagnant program would regularly compete for NCAA Tournament bids, which haven't come around very often in recent years. OSU's 2021 NCAA berth was just the program's second since 1990. Beaver fans had hoped that the program would become a factor once again in the Pac-12, reshaping the calculus in Corvallis.

That did not happen.

Oregon State is 3-27. The 2022 Beavers haven't won a game since December. This has been a complete disaster for a program which went from the penthouse to the outhouse. That's the simple reality of the Pac-12 Tournament odds, which are firmly stacked against the last-place Beavers.

Oregon is not 3-27, but the Ducks are in a very bad place nonetheless. UO was supposed to be a Sweet 16-level team this season which contended for the Pac-12 title. Instead, the Ducks finished fifth and are unlikely to make the NCAA Tournament. They will have to win four games in four days to get there, and they won't have star guard Will Richardson for this game. Dana Altman has to be wondering what went wrong with a team which nearly beat Arizona on the road and managed to sweep UCLA. This is part of the mystery attached to this game.

Why Oregon State Could Cover the Spread

The Oregon Ducks are playing poorly and don't have Will Richardson, who is arguably their most important player. OSU is getting almost 10 points. Keeping this game close seems pretty doable.

Why Oregon Could Cover the Spread

The Ducks should cover because the Beavers haven't won a game since December of 2021. They're really bad. That's it. That's the tweet.

Final Oregon State-Oregon Prediction & Pick

Oregon wins outright, but the Ducks have to conserve energy over four days and will not be at their best with Will Richardson out of the lineup. OSU will cover.

Final Oregon State-Oregon Pick: Oregon State +8.5
