Another week, another controversial ruling of a stellar touchdown catch. This time it came at the expense of Buffalo Bills wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin.

Not surprisingly, Bills owner Terry Pegula was furious with the ruling after the touchdown had been overturned. Needless to say, Pegula was not shy about voicing his displeasure with the officials during an appearance on WGR 550 AM in Buffalo

“Replay was developed by this league to correct obvious mistakes,” Pegula said. “And if you got to look at that play 30 times from five different angles, and keep looking at it, and looking at it and looking at it, you go with the call on the field. That's what the league has been doing ever since replay started. As a matter of fact, Dean Blandino, who was the head of replay last year, said last year that was a touchdown.

“I don't know what's going on, but we have to fix it. And I'm not saying that as the owner of the Bills; I'm saying that as a football fan. We can't have stuff like this happening in our league.”

There is plenty of reason for Pegula's frustration.

The play had initially been ruled a touchdown prior to the review, however, the officials ultimately determined that he did not have possession by the time his was still in-bounds. Not only did the ruling take away Benjamin's fourth touchdown of the 2017 NFL season, it also cost the Bills a potential four-point lead going into halftime.

The league and its officials have caught plenty of flak for its varying criteria as to what counts as a catch. Benjamin's would-be touchdown is just the latest example in a bevy of controversial rulings this year. That said, the NFL has some major work to do regarding its catch rule this offseason.
