Arc System Works has been hard at work with multiple gaming projects ranging from season updates to Guilty Gear Strive, extra content for DragonBall FighterZ, and the development of a new fighting game IP with DNF Duel. The lesser-known projects that they have also been working on are in the form of retrofitting three older titles with rollback netcode to give players a much smoother and more enjoyable online play experience. Those three games are Guilty Gear XX Accent Core, BlazBlue Centralfiction, and BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle. While Centralfiction and Guilty Gear XX have already received their netcode treatment, Cross Tag Battle is about to receive its netcode update later this week.

Previously during the month of February, players who owned BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle on Steam could download a beta version of the game that supports rollback netcode for testing purposes. With the netcode update now on the way, the beta version will cease to function, so steam users should prepare to re-update their clients back to the live version soon. In a post made over on the official Arc System Works Twitter page, they went on to thank everyone who participated in the beta test.

Retrofitting rollback netcode into older fighting game releases is no easy task, as the netcode must be built into every aspect of the game itself, from the visuals to the gameplay mechanics. This is also very costly as the amount of re-development needed to make this work is much more extensive than one would think. Fortunately, the pros of adding rollback netcode into most fighting games will always outweigh the cons, as it provides a noticeably smoother gameplay experience when compared to delay-based netcode.
