The Portland Trail Blazers announced on Monday that forward Jerami Grant had entered concussion protocol after exiting Saturday's loss to the Utah Jazz after butting heads with Omer Yertseven as the two battled for a rebound.

Now Blazers have downgraded Grant to out ahead of Portland's matchup with the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday.

It makes sense that Grant isn't active for Wednesday's game. It's a single-game trip to California before the Blazers return home to host the Jazz again on Friday.

It's not clear who Blazers coach Chauncey Billups will start in Grant's place, though it's likely that Jabari Walker would get the nod.

Said Billups, “I feel bad for Jerami…get banged like that on a dude flopping. He's had headaches.”

This is the second time in 2023 that Grant has missed time for the Blazers due to a concussion. He suffered a similar injury in a February game against the Memphis Grizzlies. He missed three games due to that concussion.

On the season, Grant is averaging 22.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game for the Blazers. He's shooting 43.7 percent on the season and is the team's leading scorer.

The Blazers will have a tough time without Grant on Wednesday against the Warriors. Golden State coach Steve Kerr expressed optimism that the injured Chris Paul and Andrew Wiggins would both be able to play.

The Blazers are only 6-13 on the season, though they have won three of their last five games since getting Scoot Henderson and Malcolm Brogdon back from injury.
