The Portland Trail Blazers are generally viewed as Damian Lillard’s team. Following the departures of LaMarcus Aldridge, Wesley Matthews and Nicolas Batum over the past few seasons, it was Lillard who was left behind in Portland, taking it upon himself to shoulder most of the responsibilities of leading the team.

It was a blessing for Portland, though, that another mid-major program product in C.J. McCollum has stepped in to share the burden with Lillard with the two forming one of the deadliest backcourt tandems in the league. With McCollum and Lillard behind the wheel, the Blazers have managed to look decent despite the exodus of several key talents.

The Oregonian writer, Tim Brown, recognizes the outstanding talent emanating from the two stars, and wonders on Twitter who among McCollum and Lillard would be the better option to build a new franchise around.

Reading between the lines, McCollum probably just didn’t want this to be much of a dispute when he’s more than happy to team up with Lillard in carrying the Blazers.
