Enes Kanter signed with the Portland Trail Blazers earlier this month, but it sounds like he still has a certain level of respect for his former team, the New York Knicks. In fact, Kanter is hoping the Knicks get “really good” free agents in the offseason.

Kanter made his Blazers debut on Thursday night, scoring 18 points, nine rebounds and one steal as a reserve in a 113–99 win over the Brooklyn Nets. Following the game, the Turkish-born big man was asked if he has had contact with any members of the Knicks organization since the trade:

“After you signed (with Portland), did you hear from any of your Knicks teammates or Knicks people?”

“Actually, I appreciate them,” Kanter replied. “They all texted me.

“I understand their situation,” Kanter continued. “I think (the Knicks) are a really good organization. And this summer, I hope they're going to get really, really good free agents.”

Kanter played well in his Blazers debut. He made his first seven shots and finished with an 8-of-9 mark from the field. More importantly, though, he seemed to be having fun again:

“Last time I got a win I think it was like almost two months,” Kanter told ESPN, referring to the struggles the Knicks have endured this season.

The Blazers now have a formidable center rotation in Kanter and Jusuf Nurkic, who finished Thursday's game with 27 points and 12 rebounds.

“Obviously, our two big guys really dominated inside,” Blazers head coach Terry Stotts told ESPN.

Portland's acquisition of Kanter could turn out to be a wise move down the stretch. He's a talented big who can bang with the best of them.
