The Portland Trail Blazers will amend the contract of Carmelo Anthony so it becomes fully guaranteed immediately.

The Blazers had until early January to fully guarantee Anthony's contract. Anthony had signed a non-guaranteed deal, but he's played well after a full year in NBA exile.

Bobby Marks of ESPN tweeted out how much Melo's guaranteed deal will cost the Blazers moving forward:

Anthony put up 22.3 points, 7.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game for the Blazers last week, winning the Western Conference Player of the Week Award.

Melo is averaging 16.9 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.8 assists in eight games with the Blazers. The 10-time All-Star and future Hall of Famer is shooting 44.8 percent from the field, 38.7 percent from the 3-point line and 86.4 percent from the charity stripe.

The NBA community is happy for Anthony since he's an NBA legend getting another chance in the league. The Blazers are 9-13 on the season, good for ninth place in the Western Conference standings. Portland made it to the Western Conference Finals last season. The Blazers have a ways to go before they are considered elite again.

Melo and Portland take on LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday. It should be an entertaining game with a lot of star power.
