Portland Trail Blazers center Jusuf Nurkic placed himself in some rare company with his performance in Wednesday night's 129-112 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Nurkic logged 28 minutes against the Cavs, racking up 10 points on 3-of-6 shooting from the field (4-of-4 from the free-throw line), 10 assists, 10 rebounds and five blocks.
According to Basketball-Reference, Nurkic is now just the sixth player in NBA history to record a 10/10/10 triple-double. Other players who have achieved this interesting feat include Elfrid Payton, Hassan Whiteside, Kyle Lowry, Andre Iguodala (x2), Jason Kidd and Anfernee Hardaway.
Nurkic was just two assists shy of a triple-double in Friday's victory over the Charlotte Hornets. The Bosnian-born big man scored 11 points, 11 rebounds and tied career highs with eight assists and six blocks.
According to ESPN, it had been five years since Portland's last triple-double, which was posted by Nicolas Batum. Blazers head coach Terry Stotts said he exchanged texts with Batum, who now plays for the Hornets:
Stotts joked that Batum was upset they'd left Nurk in the game against Charlotte to threaten his mark.
“Matter of fact, he texted me when Nurk didn't get his triple-double so now I texted him when he did,” Stotts told ESPN. Asked if he'd heard from Batum about Nurkic finally getting one, Stotts said, “Yeah, I won't tell you what he said.”
The Blazers (27-19 and third in the Northwest Division standings) will be back in action on Friday night, when they'll welcome the New Orleans Pelicans to town. Tip-off inside The Moda Center is set for 10:30 p.m. ET.
