New Portland Trail Blazers big man Pau Gasol has had a long and fulfilling NBA career, so no one would fault the Spaniard if he decided to finish his career in his home country. However, the 39-year-old vet claimed the thought of returning to Europe never crossed his mind.

“I really didn’t weigh the possibility of returning to Europe,” Gasol said per Marca. “My idea was to remain in the NBA. After seeing all the options, the one that Portland had was the best and the one I felt fits best to my career at this time.”

“I didn’t consider returning to Europe, to Barcelona, which would be the team I could consider returning to.”

Even though it would be fitting to return home, Gasol knows the NBA is far and away the best basketball league in the world. It's clear the seven-footer still believes that he has the skill and energy left to compete in the league and perhaps take a shot at his third championship.
