The Portland Trail Blazers has confirmed that Rodney Hood suffered a torn left Achilles tendon.

Hood sustained the injury late in the first quarter of the Blazers' game against the Los Angeles Lakers. It occurred during a non-contact play. While the team initially called it a lower left leg injury, it was apparent that Hood's Achilles may be the issue given that he was holding his ankle area when the injury happened.

Moreover, according to reports, Hood had been dealing with soreness in his Achilles a few days ago.

Through the 20 games Hood played for the Blazers this season, he averaged 11.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.6 assists. These numbers have been important for Portland, as they don't have any scoring to go to when Damian Lillard, CJ McCollum, and Carmelo Anthony struggle to find their shots.

Moreover, head coach Terry Stotts praised how well Hood has been performing from the corner this season.

“He’d be the first to say, teammates have been doing a good job,” Stotts said, per Mike Tokito of Forbes. “His 3’s have been pretty open, weak side swing. I think he’s been in good position.”

With Hood out for the rest of the season, the Blazers will be hard-pressed to find a replacement for his scoring. They can try the free agency, but veterans like Jamal Crawford and JR Smith won't necessarily improve their situation. They don't have a lot of assets to get a nice deal in the trade market as well.

Hood's Achilles injury has made the Blazers' tough season a lot worse.
