Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and the Toronto Blue Jays exploded for 28 runs against the Boston Red Sox. And the 28-year-old outfielder made team history along the way.

According to ESPN Stats and Info, Gurriel's six-hit night against the Red Sox tied the franchise record for most hits in a single game. Former shortstop Frank Catalanotto accomplished the feat back in 2004.

The 28 runs scored by the Canadian ball club is also a franchise record. Boston also set a franchise record for most runs allowed in a game. It was an embarrassing night altogether for the Red Sox.

The Blue Jays did a lot of damage in the top of the fifth. Gurriel Jr. got the party started by hitting a single to center, scoring Bo Bichette to make it 15-3.

Gurriel Jr. scored on a Danny Jansen single to right field. He came up to bat again in the inning, scoring Bichette and Teoscar Hernandez on a double to deep center field.

The Blue Jays were just two runs away from tying the modern major league record for most runs scored in a game. The Texas Rangers, who put 30 runs on the Baltimore Orioles in 2007, set the mark.

One of the more infamous moments of the game came in the fifth inning. Raimel Tapia popped a ball to center field, and it looked like a sure-out.

However, Boston center fielder Jarren Duran lost sight of the ball, and it landed behind him. He watched as a teammate raced over to pick the ball up. It was too late, as Tapia cleared the bases with an inside-the-park grand slam.

Gurriel Jr. and the Blue Jays have looked to turn their season around since firing manager Charlie Montoyo. This performance Friday night undeniably will give them all the momentum in the world.
