Gervonta Davis has got NBA superstar Damian Lillard raving about his performance against Isaac Cruz.
Contrary to what most have expected, Gervonta Davis failed to pull off another sensational knockout win. However, he still managed to get his hand raised after beating Isaac Cruz via unanimous decision.
In one of his rarest fights ever, Davis, who was the taller fighter in the bout, was able to land several power shots on Cruz. Midway through the fight, “Tank” appeared to have hurt his left hand but it didn't stop him from convincing the judges to give him the nod.
Sharing his honest thoughts on Davis' win on social media, Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard lauded the Baltimore native for showing “layers to his game” despite being hurt.
“I knew tank [Davis'] hand was hurt midway through the fight… but he showed layers to his game and still won comfortable to me. Cruz is a beast tho…,” Lillard wrote on Twitter.
Lifting the lid on his hand after the fight, Davis admitted that he did hurt the said hand right around the “sixth round.”
“I hurt my left hand in probably the sixth round but I've got to throw it,” Davis said post fight via CBS Sports. “I have to go get it checked out. It's shaking but it is what it is, that's what comes in the sport.”
As things stand, Davis has a wide array of options for his next opponent with Devin Haney, George Kambosos Jr. and Ryan Garcia all presenting a strong case.
