Thursday, August 31, 2023 will always be remembered as the night Ronald Acuna Jr. became the first MLB player in history to hit 30 home runs and steal 60 bases in a single season. But the Atlanta Braves superstar also achieved some other remarkable history against the Los Angeles Dodgers that must be properly recognized.

Acuna is the second player ever, behind just Mike Trout, to record 150 career homers and 150 stolen bags before or at the age of 25. A special night made even more satisfying because it came against one of baseball's most prestigious and successful franchises.

Acuna jumped all over a Lance Lynn fastball in the second inning, blasting a grand slam that broke a 1-1 tie. Although he was not fortunate enough to do it in front of his home fans at Truist Park, the electricity surrounding the Venezuelan outfielder was palpable. To the chagrin of Dodgers fans, he continues to build a strong case for National League MVP.

Looking at the big picture, one has to acknowledge the Hall of Fame trajectory Ronald Acuna Jr. is currently on. Obviously, such a debate is likely many years from being legitimately argued, but the four-time All-Star is in elite company. Any modern player who has his name mentioned in the same sentence as Mike Trout is an undeniable juggernaut.

It hard to comprehend that the Braves actually won the 2021 World Series without this guy. Now the whole baseball world is seeing what this team can do when at full strength. Acuna is the engine who will determine how far this high-end sports car goes. If this historic run carries into October, one has to assume Atlanta will continue to reap the benefits.
