After going through the mud of tanking hard throughout “The Process” period from 2013 to 2017, Philadelphia 76ers head coach Brett Brown has no other desire but to make it to the mountaintop.

The Philly Inquirer's Keith Pompey tweeted out a video of Brown talking about the team's goal for the season. Brown said it straight in the media interview: “We want to play in the NBA Finals.”

This is definitely a hefty goal for Brown and the young Sixers, but they have the right to be confident after a surprisingly successful campaign in the 2017-18 season.

The 57-year-old coach went through a lot of losing as then-GM Sam Hinkie decided to put the team on a full rebuild mode that lasted until the 2016-17 season.

The team was not expected to make the strides they did last year, but they proved that they were ready to compete after a strong finish to the regular season propelled them to the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference. They were led by All-NBA second-team member Joel Embiid and Rookie of the Year Ben Simmons.

In the playoffs, there was also doubt whether the young Sixers could advance past the first round. But they proved to be tough as they dispatched the Miami Heat easily in five games.

With the Sixers steamrolling through the last part of the regular season and the first round of the playoffs, they were touted as the favorite against a Boston Celtics team missing two of their best players in Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward. However, this series proved the Sixers' youth as they were not just able to make the necessary adjustments against the top-notch Celtics defense.

Nonetheless, Philly has every right to be confident. The Sixers have etched themselves as one of the elite teams in the East. With a year of much-needed experience under their belt, Brown feels they can can take the next step in this coming season and be among the two protagonists remaining come June.
